Review: Jom! Makan (Singapore)
REVIEW
Average
Jom! Makan
is a Malay Muslim stall selling a handful of nasi dishes. Inconsistent flavours. Just average.
Nasi Goreng
Jom! Makan does nasi goreng with mildly flavoured coconut rice stir fried with egg. Comes with a fried chicken wing that is crispy outside, moist inside and with nice flavours. Tastes decent.
Mee Hoon Goreng
Once in a while, you may see Jom! Makan sell mee hoon goreng as well. This tastes more like dry mee siam with an almost non-existent amount of eggs added. Comes with a fried chicken wing added that has a frozen meat taste and isn’t crispy. The fried chicken wing isn’t so good today. Mee hoon goreng is decent though. Fried chicken wing isn’t consistent.

Nasi Lemak
This nasi lemak is quite mediocre. It comes with a fried egg, a fried chicken wing and a piece of chicken nugget. There is no ikan bilis and peanuts. The rice is very mildly fragrant with almost no coconut milk flavours. It is almost like plain rice. The sambal chilli tastes decent though, spicy with savoury and smokey flavours. Today’s fried chicken wing tastes just average with small pockets of crispiness outside. The fried egg and chicken nugget are both regular standard stuff. This is a subpar nasi lemak.
Nasi Geprek
This is not exactly your regular ayam geprek. It uses the same coconut milk flavoured rice as nasi lemak above. This time round, the rice has a fairly nice fragrant and taste of coconut milk which tastes way better than the flavours of nasi lemak from another visit. Instead of crispy bits of crushed fried chicken, a few slices of fried chicken meat is provided. Includes a small piece of fried tofu and a fried egg is an extra add on. It comes with both sambal chilli and green sambal served on the side. The green sambal is spicy with ikan bilis flavours. Overall this tastes decent, but your mileage varies due to the inconsistency of this stall.
