Fried Carrot Cake

Lao Chen Carrot Cake & Popiah does fried carrot cake of both the black and white versions using soft radish cubes. Both versions of fried carrot cake are mostly soft with pockets of charred bits that are mildly crispy. Both tastes somewhat bland. The black ones have sweet black sauce added but still lacking in flavours. This is just borderline average.

Although this is not that good a fried carrot cake, it is still fares better than Tiong Bahru Kampong Carrot Cake located in the same Tiong Bahru Market.

Popiah

As for their popiah, it has a filling of shredded radish, carrots, egg omelette, bean sprouts, dried shrimp and some grated peanuts wrapped in a chewy skin. The dried shrimp flavour of this popiah is rather nice, but it tastes a bit bland though. It is just an average popiah, in my opinion.
