Depot Road Zhen Shan Mei Claypot Laksa

is well known for serving their laksa in a claypot, but it seems that claypots are no longer used. Without claypots makes this just another ordinary bowl of laksa.

Laksa

Depot Road Zhen Shan Mei Claypot Laksa is a popular stall that is supposed to sell tasty laksa served in claypots but apparently they don’t use claypots anymore and just serve their laksa in plastic bowls. What is claypot laksa without a claypot? The answer is, just an ordinary bowl of laksa.

This laksa without its claypot is still quite tasty though. You can choose between yellow noodles, thick mee hoon (rice vermicelli) and thin mee hoon, and it comes with tau pok (beancurd puffs), fish cake slices, shredded chicken and one miserable piece of small prawn (more like a shrimp to me). The interesting part is its laksa gravy. The main base is not thick and more like soup. A layer of thick yellow curry is then added on top of it with a scoop of sambal chilli. Mixed it all up to savour its full flavours which is quite good.

This stall may appear to be popular with long queues, but I soon realise that it may not be due to its popularity being the main reason. I was third in queue and the people before me were ordering just a bowl or two but it took me a good half hour just to get my bowl of laksa. It is just the cook taking his own sweet time to dish out the laksa that is the main cause for this long wait. Is this worth the wait? Probably not.
