Hainanese Chicken Rice

Ah Tai Hainanese Chicken Rice is run by the former chef of Tian Tian Hainanese Chicken Rice. While Tian Tian Hainanese Chicken Rice prepares their well known chicken rice from a central kitchen, Ah Tai Hainanese Chicken Rice still cooks everything at the stall.

First, the hainanese chicken. Drumstick is requested here. The chicken meat is smooth, tender and juicy. Its skin is very smooth and soft that it feels almost like melting inside your mouth. A nicely flavoured soya sauce seasoning is added to the chicken when served. This hainanese chicken tastes really good! A minor downside is, this chicken is not completely deboned but it is really a non-issue for a tasty hainanese chicken.

Next, the rice. Most people focuses on the chicken in a hainanese chicken rice, whereas the rice served is an important component too. This serving of rice is really fragrant. It is firm and very flavourful. The rice tastes good even on its own. Definitely good in my books.

Served with the chicken rice are a few slices of cucumbers and a limey and garlicky tasting chilli sauce. The chilli sauce goes pretty well with the flavours of the chicken rice. However, personally I prefer to go without and savour its fine intricate flavours.

This serving of hainanese chicken rice is absolutely lovely. I truly enjoyed it – the original flavours of Tian Tian Hainanese Chicken Rice. Good!
